We are what we think. That may sound like a piece of popular or optimist psychology, but there is undeniable truth behind that statement. Our behavior is shaped by our thoughts, and thus we can shape the type of person we want to be. While we often apply this to our social lives or hobbies, we often fail to do this at work.

No matter what you do, to be a successful professional you need to have a clear idea of who you want to be in your profession. How would someone you admire in your profession behave? By defining how you want coworkers to see you, you begin to visualize the type of professional you want to be, and your thoughts will begin to shape you into that person.

Start by writing down all of the qualities you would like co-workers to praise you for, like hard-working, punctual, thought-leader, etc. Review this list every work day and visualize yourself being that person. Before you know it your brain will have internalized these qualities and you will be on your road to professional success.
